Hearing aids use digital technology and have few moving parts. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need repair from time to time. Many repairs are simple, and you can do them at home. However, if you ever have a problem with your hearing aids or get them wet, its good to know that Awender Audiology is here to help. Even if you didn’t buy your hearing aids from us, we can probably repair your devices because we service most all major brands.
Troubleshooting hearing aid problems
When your hearing aids won’t turn on, or the sound is distorted, it can be frustrating. Don’t panic. These simple steps will resolve most problems with hearing aids.
Problems with volume
First, check the volume control. Frequently this is all you need to do to fix the problem. Some hearing aids have a manual volume control, and it can be accidentally turned down. Next, clear the tube to the receiver. Earwax, skin or water can clog the tube. In addition, check the microphone for wax build-up. If your hearing aid has multiple programs, make sure it is set to the proper program.
Problems with distortion
If the problem is not the volume, but the sound is distorted, make sure you have the correct hearing aid in the correct ear. Most hearing aids are marked right and left, but it is still easy to get them mixed up. If you have the device in the proper ear, the batteries might need replacing. The amount of power in the battery affects the ability of the hearing aids to process sounds. Install fresh batteries and make sure the battery door is completely closed. Confirm the hearing aids weren’t set to telecoil by accident.
Hearing aids won’t power on
The most obvious fix is to make sure you switched the hearing aids to the “on” position. Next, replace the batteries.
